Female Muscle Study Sculpt 01
I picked up 3d Coat a while back and have been playing with it's sculpting tools. Long ago on this blog I started an ecorche in Sculptris but had such trouble with that style of sculpting in the Sculptris interface, that I abandoned the effort. I really would like to have seen what Sculptris would have become had Pixologic not defensively bought them so that Sculptris wouldn't grow up to compete with Zbrush. (For those unaware, Pixologic bought Sculptris in 2010 and hired the sole developer. I'm sure that was great for him, but it killed Sculptris. It's still available for free, but hasn't been updated since it was bought except for the addition of a GoZ button, which seems insulting to me...)
3D Coat is nice, though. I'm getting a better sense for when I should be working in voxels and when I should be working in surfaces/polys. I think I'll really start being able to do finished work in it too!
Now if I could just get clean normal map bakes out of it we'd be golden.

Ludum Dare 28: My 48 Hour Game: Flee to Light
I completed my first Ludum Dare! 48 hours to produce everything... all new code, all new art, all by myself. I'm super proud that I got as much done as I did (though that doesn't include any music or sound) for my first attempt at the challenge. I may try the LD Jam next year so as to have some more time/resources/people to make a more finished product.
That aside, here's the game I made! It's called:
"Flee from skittering shadow creatures. The only defense you have is light. Protect your torch and it will protect you. Accidentally throw it in the water, and you're doomed.
Light up bits of wood in the environment to clear a path or to make a temporary bonfire to drive back the creatures. Light up lanterns to (semi)permanently protect an area. Don't get too comfortable, because the longer you stay in one place, the easier it is for the creatures to find you. Find and light all ten (six are near the end) lanterns to open the exit."
To play the game yourself, click here.

On Digital Nativity and Appearance on IdeaChannel
I'm beginning to think that my ideas and comments are becoming more relevant as I age. This bodes well for the future :)
Anyway this time it's a comment I made on the Idea Channel episode on "Digital Nativity"

Particle Effects for Unity 01: Making Looping Smoke Sprites in After Effects
I'm going to start cross-posting my youtube videos here to spread some of the content around.
Here's the first video in a series on Particle Effects in Unity.
This is longer than the other tutorials I've made, but if you want to learn more, subscribe or check back for more game-art tutorials and demos.

So I took issue with some rough math that was done in an episode of Game Theory.

"Address the Sess" Appearance
I like Adam Sessler, I think he's a pretty smart dude. Even when he was stuck in the pits of G4 and X-Play, he brought a more literary voice to games journalism. He was one of the few people who would compare a new videogame to a book as often as he would compare it to a movie. Anyway, he found his way to Revision3 Games on youtube, and it's a much better home for him, as he's allowed to go into more depth in his opinions.
I had the luck to have my question chosen as the final question of a pretty good episode of Address the Sess which was focussed on GTA 5. My question (which maxed out the character limit) was this:
" NPR: Marketplace raised a question a couple days ago about what piece of media is going to represent this financial event the way that Grapes of Wrath or It's a Wonderful Life did before. Is it GTA 5? "
Anyway, I can't wait until I get a chance to check out GTA 5 myself. I've been combing youtube recently for slow motion footage of the explosion effect so that I can break it down for a Particle Effect tutorial, but I am noticing a surprising lack of slow-motion explosions. Hmm. Anyway, keep an eye out for that tutorial.
